We had some problems installing the Windows update; therefore, I need someone to respond to my question.

Which of the two methods—check for updates or manual installation—would be the best for installing Windows updates?

Recently, the irrelevant patch (KB5031471) has been sent to the Windows 10 LTSB 2016 version when we click to check for updates, which has caused a lot of problems.

Which method of patch installation would be the most effective?

i guess updating through the windows update would be the best idea. can you clarify what problems you're having while updating through windows update?

The irrelevant patch (KB5031471) has been pushed to the Windows 10 LTSB 2016 version when we click to check for updates, which has caused a lot of problems. We were unable to open any .exe file. Post uninstall it works fine.

Post updating this update: 2023-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB5032197)

It fixed the issue. Can someone please let me know if that is the fix?

Generally check for Windows Update and automate installing of updates are recommended. It is important to make sure you have installed all updates and missing updates could put your PC as risk. However, if you are managing group of devices, you may consider using WSUS or other Windows Update deployment methods and perform testing before deployment.

Yes, but we installed the patch KB5031471 (Not supported patch) into our production workstations (Windows 10 LTSB 2016) while checking for updates, which resulted in numerous problems, like the inability to read exe files.

We therefore want to know how to install patches by choosing the right ones from the Microsoft catalog. Is that a wise approach?

No, what you could do is to deploy update on testing environment like using WSUS and if testing was okay, then deploy it on other devices.
