Basic Load balancer

Question

Can the basic internal load balancer in Azure load balance traffic to Virtual machines in the same subnet but virtual machines are not in a availability set ?

The only Backend pool endpoints you can add to basic sku is Virtual machines in a single availability set or virtual machine scale set.
