Some Guest user can't access. Suspect Multiple IdentityProvider "federated MicrosoftAccount"

Got some guest users who are unable to login. They get through the whole sign in process for a shared resource (sharepoint/onedrive). The last step after "keep me logged on", ends with an error: Please try again later

The common here looks like they've used a Microsoft account historically before and now uses a Office 365 account. These are rather old guest accounts, one dating back to 2016.

In the properties on the users having problem getting through an invite to a resource all have "Identities: Multiple" under Identity. They have both MicrosoftAccount and ExternalAzureAD.

Working guest users have only ExternalAzureAD.

I've searched high and low how to remove the Identity MicrosoftAccount but haven't been able to figure that one out.

What works is to totally remove the guest user, purge it, and the creating a new invite.

But I would like to know if it's possible to remove the MicrosoftAccount from the Identity and make the existing guest user account workable again. So, how?
