How to fix MDT unable to image Lenovo device

Hello

We have got a server with the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit on that we use for mass Windows 10 device imaging however whenever we add the new Lenovo device models to the out-of-box drivers we get the following error.

A connection to the deployment share could not be made. The following network device did not have a driver installed. Try again to connect to the deployment share.

We are currently adapting MDT to use the total control method and I have created a custom Task Sequence to point to the driver group but I do not think that this works. The device seems to PXE boot into MDT just fine but the Task Sequence seems to fail right at the very beginning which tells me that the PXE boot (network) driver is missing from the WinPE boot file.

How do I go about adding the correct driver? I have already consulted with the Lenovo support guide and downloaded the right driver packs and WinPE drivers so not really sure what else I can do.

Thanks

Shaun

    Hi,

As you mentioned above, you have downloaded the NIC driver for winPE but still failed. At such situation, is there any chance for us to open a command prompt and try to ping the mdt server to verify the NIC driver is intact? If no, ask levono again for the right driver for winPE.

For OS deployment, in different stage, we need different driver:

At PXE stage, no driver needed, all the functions are burned within the NIC ROM, for example, PXE function, TFTP function, etc. - That's why we can PXE successfully.

At winPE stage, the driver for winPE is requried, so that we can access the mdt share with authentication and download the full OS image, etc.

At full OS stage, the driver for win10 is required for the full OS to function properly.

    Regards,

    Alex
