Windows Server - two independent RDP sessions

Hello everyone,

This is my first request, which I have not been able to clarify through my own research.

The following setting:

  • Business use
  • Current operating system: Windows 11 pro
  • I have a program that is used by different workstations but accesses the same data master.
  • The software can be started multiple times on one computer/server and used in parallel. There is an error message if both users want to access the same data record. This works, but rarely happens.
  • The software is currently running on one PC and is used directly on this computer.
  • There is also a second computer on which the software is installed. This accesses the data on the main computer via VPN. The weak point here is that the data is transferred very slowly. This is very inconvenient in day-to-day business.

Goal/performance:

  • The software is installed on a computer/server. This does not necessarily have to be used for other tasks and can also be set up. Two workstations should be able to access it at the same time via RDP.
  • OR: The second workstation can access the existing main computer while it can still be used in parallel. This option would probably be preferable if its operating system does not have to be changed.
  • Buying additional licenses would not be a problem. I have read that the requirements might be possible with the "Windows Server" operating system.

I hope I have explained my situation clearly and am of course happy to provide any further information you may require.

Many thanks and best regards

Lukas

    Hi Luk,

AS per your information the good solution will be to explore Azure Virtual Desktop and this will fit your requirements, this AVD can be accesssed from anywhere in the world and multiple users can access it.

For this I will request you to explore this page - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/products/virtual-desktop

If you do not have Azure account you can create a trial account and use $200 free credit to setup this and try out yourself - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/products/virtual-desktop#get-started

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

We cannot have 2 active sessions in a windows client (win11), if you want to have 2 sessions at the same time. You can try to image a windows server. It allows 2 users to login at the same time even though you don't have any license. You just need to type in mstsc /admin to login the second session.

Note: More than 2 sessions/users required, you should purchase the license key.

Command here: mstsc | Microsoft Learn

License: License your RDS deployment with client access licenses (CALs) | Microsoft Learn
