Having trouble getting an on-premise web application to authenticate via SSO OpenID through Azure Application Proxy

We have a working on-premise web application that uses OpenID for authentication. We also have a working Azure Application Proxy setup that we use for several of our password based and Windows Integrated on-premise web applications. We would like to move the OpenID application to Azure Application Proxy, but we're unable to get the OpenID authentication call to work. Does anybody know if OpenID is supported with Azure Applicaiton Proxy? I found the following article and it lists SAML as a supported sign-on type, but it doesn't list OPenID (OIDC).

Azure Application Proxy supports various authentication methods, including SAML and integrated Windows authentication, but it does not natively support OpenID Connect (OIDC) as a direct authentication method. The article you referenced provides a good overview of the supported authentication options for Azure Application Proxy.
