Currently it is not possible to create a Shared Channel within a recently created Microsoft Team.

When trying to create a Shared Channel it will result in the message: Failed to execute CreateGroupAsync

The results is given when trying to create the Shared Channel either from within Teams Admin, Teams Client and Microsoft Graph API.

Reproduce:

  • Create a new Microsoft Team
  • Try to add a Shared Channel

All of our Tenants are experience the same issue which also include Targeted and Standard release tenants.

This issue occured 2 days ago and is not working since.
The strange thing is that adding a Shared Channel to an older Team is working fine.

    Hi Sander,

Only team owners can create a shared channel. Team members can't create them. Please check the settings below:

    1. Check if the creator is the team owner. User's image
    2. Check in the Teams admin center that the setting to create shared channels is enabled. After setting, it takes a few hours for it to take effect. User's image

Hi @Ran Hou-MSFT the issue is solved since last week by Microsoft.
Now we are able again to create Shared Channels and the new added Teams are also connected again with a Exchange emailbox.
