Using Cost Management Inheritance feature and want to confirm inheritance order.

Using Cost Management Inheritance feature. Have checked 'Automatically apply subscription and resource group tags to usage data of the current month'. We also checked 'Keep the resource tag'. So, I have subscription, resource group and resource all tagged with the same tag but different values. Understand the tag on resource is the value used. My question is: if the resource is not tagged, will the usage record have the tag value from the subscription or the resource group (bearing in mind that the values are different in this example)? Can someone help me understand the inheritance order in such cases? Thank you for your help.

    Hi @AnneShaw-3581 ,

It depends on the option selected in the Tag inheritance window. If you chose to use the subscription or resource group tag, then the usage record will have the value of the subscription or resource group tag. If you chose to keep the resource tag, then the usage record will not have a tag value. The inheritance order is determined by the option selected in the Tag inheritance window.

As mentioned above we have checked 'Automatically apply subscription and resource group tags to usage data of the current month' and also 'Keep the resource tag'.

    Tag is environment.

    • 1 example: environment tag on subscription is 'Prod', environment tag on RG is 'NProd' and environment tag on resource is 'QA'. With the above settings is the environment tag 'QA' in cost management, and the usage record does not have a tag value? In other words, the resource has the physical tag of environment and a value of 'QA'. The usage record has nothing.
    • 2 example: environment tag on subscription is 'Prod', environment tag on RG is 'NProd' and environment tag does not exist on the resource. With the above settings is the environment tag 'NProd' in cost management and on the usage record but there will be no physical environment tag on the resource?

Could you please confirm that I have this right. Thank you.
