Regarding the recent announcement about discontinuing support for TLS 1.0, scheduled to take effect on October 31st, I would like to clarify whether this change specifically affects Azure services or if it also extends to virtual machines (VMs) hosted on Azure.

Our application relies on ODBC connectivity to a database running on an Azure VM, and this connectivity necessitates the use of TLS 1.0. It is crucial for us to ascertain that TLS 1.0 will continue to be supported on Azure VMs and that the impact of this change is limited to Azure services. Could you kindly confirm this for us?

    Hi @DheerajVerma-6945 ,

Thanks for contacting Microsoft Q&A platform.
I understand that you are concerned about the discontinuation of support for TLS 1.0 and its impact on your application’s connectivity to a database running on an Azure VM. According to the official announcement by Microsoft, support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 will end by October 31, 2024, for Azure services . However, it is not clear from the announcement whether this change will also affect virtual machines hosted on Azure.

To ensure that your application continues to function seamlessly, I recommend that you upgrade your TLS versions to 1.2 or later by October 31, 2024, as recommended by Microsoft . This will help you avoid potential service disruptions and ensure that your resources that interact with Azure services are using TLS 1.2 or later.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Hi Dheeraj,

This change is not limited to just SaaS and PaaS but also extends to IaaS such as Azure virtual machines. If you look at the following article, you can see that it does reference the OS quite often in regards to the TLS upgrades. My company will be going through a similar effort with our services and virtual machines in 2024. Hope this helps and best of luck.
