How to remove authenticator if I lost access?

My coworker lost access to his Microsoft Authenticator and doesn't have any of the backup information. He can access his recovery account, but that only lets him change his password, which is pointless since he needs to setup a new authenticator. How can he remove his authenticator if he doesn't have access to it?

Assuming a 365 work / school account you'll need the account admins to reset the account so a new QR code can be generated with which you can relink the authentication device to your account.

If you are the admin (and blocked) then you can reach out to 365 global customer service here.
