I'm unable to access databricks account admin console to create a metastore and assign to my workspace.
I'm the service admin for the subscription where the databricks workspace is created. However If I open the account console, its prompting me to select one of the databricks workspaces. Please note that its my own subscription via visual studio benefits in my company tenant.
Let's assume we have 5 different projects in my org which are using Azure databricks service in same region.
- What is the best approach to handle the governance through unity catalog ?
- Is my organization supposed to have one meta store per region ?
- The meta data of all these 5 projects will be stored within a single data lake ? Please note the all the projects have the data lakes and subscriptions respectively.
- All the meta data across the environments ( Dev, UAT and Prod) gets stored in a single meta store ? Each environment has its own subscription.

On November 9, 2023, Databricks started to enable new workspaces for Unity Catalog automatically, with a rollout proceeding gradually. If your workspace was enabled for Unity Catalog automatically, this article does not apply to you. To determine if your workspace is already enabled for Unity Catalog, see Step 1: Confirm that your workspace is enabled for Unity Catalog.
use the above link to confirm if your workspace is currently enabled for UC if you have created it before nov 2023.
