How to get details documents viewed in SharePoint 2019

Hi All

I want to Generate the report for entire web application for below activity, how can generate

Details of Documents Viewing - Note we have office online
Details of users who deleted any document across the web application
Details of users who updated any document across the web application.

we have SharePoint 2019 - On premised version

To generate a report for the entire web application of SharePoint 2019, you can use the SharePoint audit log reports feature. This feature provides detailed information about the activities performed on the site collection, such as document views, deletions, and updates .

Thank you for the responce.

however Audit logs does not give entire data which I expected, for The list item view and document view , is not shown in the report

in the Audit setting we can find only below lists,

can you please let me know how can i get all the data

Hi @suyog mahindrakar ,

I apologize for forgetting to clarify one thing. SharePoint Server 2019 does not support the "View" audit action. This was removed as of 2019.

As a workaround, we could enable SharePoint Auditing for the Document Content Type in current library to meet your requirement.

Check as follows:

Go to the library settings>Information Management Policy Settings> select Document content type then check the relevant option:

Please note If you are missing Information Management Policy Settings, we first need to enable the Site policy feature on the site collection level.

Finally, please note that "View/Download/Open" is displayed as a same "View" event on the report

Hi Haoyan Xue_MSFT,

Yes now i found the settings, But I can not enabled each documents as I have several lists and documets hence I enabled at content type level for the DOcument and List item content types , I think i need to wait for some time to generate the audit logs, as currently it says empty data

Also suppose we update document via shared folder or office online, I belive this event also caught by the system

Thank you for the response, I enabled auditing on document library content types and list items and pages library, however in the audit logs below events are not captured

List Item View - Not Captured in the Audit log

List Item Edit - Captured in the Audit logs

List Item Deleted - Captured in the Audit logs

Document Viewed - Captured in the Audit logs

Document Downloaded - Still confirming

Document Updated - Captured in the Audit logs

Document Deleted - Captured in the Audit logs

Pages view - Not Captured in the Audit log

Pages Edit - Not Captured in the Audit log

Pages Deleted - Not Captured in the Audit Log

Can you please confirm on below

1)if we open the document from shared drive - will it capture as "View" event

2)if we access the document from office online - will it capture as "View" event

Because Audit report does not show latest data , i need to wait 1 day to check report and compare the activity

Thanks for the suggestions, I have tested all the scenarios and below activities are getting tracked in Audit successfully

List item Add/Updated/Delete
Document Add/Update/Delete
Document Open in Excel online
Document download entries
The document opened through Shared Drives
