No mobile sign in approval notification on new Iphone

Question

I recently got a new iphone and I was able to log in my two account's into my new microsoft authenticator app, i then traded the phone in. I am not able to receive the log in approval messages on my phone, notification are enabled and i have the password and log in, I simply dont have the abillity to approve log in requests, I still can use the enter a certain number to log in but my school portal does not allow that. What Can i do?
