Is there a difference when adding a guest user under external collaboration if they already have a microsoft account?

I am currently under a GCC G5 trial for testing functionality with SharePoint Online.

I setup External Collaboration with restricted domains and created guest accounts to join SharePoint.

The first account added as a guest was from my own on-prem environment which does not have a Microsoft account.

  • This guest account works flawlessly. (account type: Mail)

The second guest account i added (duplicating the first guest) has an existing (MicrosoftAccount) MS on.microsoft.com account for their organization.

This is the error they receive when following the same login instructions provided the first.

Something Went Wrong

    Hi @Jeff Stow ,

    Welcome to Q&A forum!

What do you mean by duplicating the first guest? Does it mean that the steps are the same as the first account?

If the guest has a work or school account in another organization, or a Microsoft account, they can log in with their regular username and password. If they have a different type of account - such as a Gmail account - they can log in by using a one-time passcode that is sent to their email address. However, the error message you encountered suggests that the organization that owns the resource has a policy that prevents access from people in the domain the guest is currently signed into. It is possible that the guest's Microsoft account is associated with a domain that is restricted by the policy. Therefore, it is recommended to check the policy settings and ensure that the guest's domain is allowed to access the resource.

You can also try to invite other accounts with Microsoft accounts to see if it works.

And try to re-invite using browser privacy mode to see if it succeeds.
