Client (charity - low budget) has an in-place Server 2012 Foundation box from their previous IT provider. Is it possible to complete a migration to a new server, running 2019 Essential, to capture existing AD and roles, or do we need to start from scratch, and move all existing devices to the new domain?

Thanks for the link - I had found that, but it doesn't expressly answer the question, as 2012 Foundation is not listed, but 2008 is. My question is more specific, as Foundation appears to have impediments to the process, but I wanted to ask the community whether they have run this successfully or not.
Not sure what is meant. Steps should be basically the same.

since server 2019 essentials has been removed "server essentials exprience role" and only reserve "RDlicensing" role for RDS.
if you have a new physical server ,i think building a new w2019 essentials domain on it and rejoin client computers to this new domain . This method will avoid some unexpected issue.meanwhile you don't concern about 21 days limitation when you are migrating from 2012 fundation to w2019 essentials.
"The Destination Server is joined to the existing domain. The Source Server and the Destination Server can be members of the AD DS domain until the migration process is finished. After the migration is finished, you must remove the Source Server from the network within 21 days."
