Hi, Recently I'm preparing to transition from an on-premises email journaling tool to M365, Is there any best practices for configuring email journaling in M365 in terms of organizing storage (should a single mailbox be used for all journaling data or should it be segmented by user or region?). Also, any specific steps should be taken to efficiently migrate historical email journal data from the on-premises system to M365?

I prefer the below steps for configuring and migrating email journaling in Microsoft 365.

For Configuring Email Journaling in M365:

    • Use Dedicated Mailboxes
    • Segmentation by Criteria
    • Retention Policies
    • Monitoring and Reporting

For Migrating Historical Email Journal Data:

    • Assessment and Cleanup
    • Use Migration Tool - You can use Microsoft 365 Data Migration Service (DMS)
    • Batch Migration
    • Test the Migration
    • Notify Users and Stakeholders
    • Verify Data Integrity
    • Update Journaling Configuration
