My college is using Microsoft to host our email servers. We have just obtained a new domain, lxxx.edu (as an abbreviation of our lxxxxxxx.edu domain) and would like emails addressed to

By using Microsoft to host our email servers, do you mean the user mailboxes are hosted on Exchange Online? If so, basically you can follow the steps below:
- Add the new domain to your Microsoft 365 subscription and verify you own it. See: Add a domain to Microsoft 365. You'll also need to configure the DNS records like MX for the new domain so that mails to the new domain can be routed to your organization.
- Add the new domain as an accepted domain in Exchange Online. See Manage accepted domains in Exchange Online.
- Bulk add <userid>@lxxc.edu as an email alias for existing users. Refer to: Add or remove email addresses for a mailbox in Exchange Online.
