Local computer terminal will not raise after an RDP connection was established to it

Hey there,

Not sure where to post but maybe some of you have experience with this issue. First time I've encountered it.

System is Windows 10, connected to AD, running a RTX 3090 linked to a TV and a 1440p monitor (I know all of this seems random, but the RTX was recently installed ~2 weeks and this issue has popped up over the last few days).

I can connect via RDP to the machine at all times. The problem occurs after some period of local inactivity. For example: I'm connected to the machine via RDP for 30 minutes being active the whole time. The local terminal is inactive (obviously RDP takes over). Normal behavior would be that if I moved the mouse or touched keyboard on the local terminal, the computer would prompt me to login, and logging in would result in my other device getting kicked off RDP from this machine. The current experienced behavior is that touch mouse or keyboard locally no longer does anything - it no longer raises a login screen. However, further RDP connections work fine, and the machine is clearly still up throughout all of this.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated!

John

    Hi,
1.What is OS version of both client computer and target computer?

2.Is there any updates has been installed recently before the issue occurred?

3.Just bit confused about local terminal, is there any applications or program used for such function or you simply referred to console/local log into the computer?

4.For remote session related info, you could check event logs in both client and target PC to verify if any clues.
    Event log checking:

TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager and TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager logs to view information about connections.

Step 1: Press Windows+R to open the Run dialog, enter eventvwr (or eventvwr.msc) and hit OK.

Step 2: Navigate to Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-*

Hope this helps and please help to accept as Answer if the response is useful.

    Thanks,
    Jenny

    Hi John,

Could you please help to confirm if any RDP tool has been used for you to switching between RDP connection and Console connection(local terminal)?

    (Any screenshots will be appreciated)

If yes, you'd better also check the configuration of such tool and updates might be applied.

    Thanks,
    Jenny
