How much traffic can B1s handle

Hi, I have a few questions regarding the Virtual Machine size B1s. I don't understand much about virtual machines so I need help with this. I have a .net 6 project which I was planning on hosting on an Azure Virtual Machine. The main aim is to get traffic to my new website. Due to B1s being free I thought I would pick that. However, I am not certain if B1s can handle my needs. Below is an image of the virtual machine size B1s

My questions are:

  1. Can B1s handle a traffic of 100,000 per month?
  2. Or a better question may be how much traffic can B1s handle per month?
  3. Is there another virtual machine size you recommend for my needs? Thank you

    Hello SG

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform, thanks for posting your query here.

    Thanks for sharing the details.

    1. Can B1s handle a traffic of 100,000 per month? B1s is the smallest size available for virtual machines in Azure. It has 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM, B series does not provide the user with a consistent level of network performance. The networking numbers may not always be accurate so these are not published in the document.
    2. Or a better question may be how much traffic can B1s handle per month? B series is designed for more CPU intensive workloads as that is what we are really scaling out depending on credits. As network bandwidth is your main ask, then the B series is likely not the best choice for your case.
    3. Is there another virtual machine size you recommend for my needs? To determine the best virtual machine size for your needs, you should consider the following factors:
      • The expected traffic to your website
      • The resource requirements of your .NET 6 project
      • The amount of RAM and CPU required to run your application
      • The amount of storage required for your application data
Based on your needs, I would recommend considering a larger virtual machine size, which has max network bandwidth of 500 Mbps or more. These sizes can handle more traffic and provide more resources for your application to run smoothly. However, they are not free and you will need to pay for the resources you use. Hope this helps.

    Hi SG,

Quite honestly the B1s won't run much especially if you are planning on running Windows Server on it. I would recommend starting with the B2s and as you notice the resources being completely used (CPU and RAM) I would recommend scaling your resource up as needed.

It is easier to scale up rather than scaling down.
