KB5041587 fails to solve the dual-boot issue with Linux. What is the URL to the workaround?

Hi

I updated my device to Microsoft Windows OS build 22631.4112 a few hours ago.

According to August 27, 2024—KB5041587 (OS Builds 22621.4112 and 22631.4112) Preview, KB5041587 is supposed to resolve the issue of dual-boot of Microsoft Windows and Linux.

Unfortunately, the issue is not resolved.

It means that I need to disable SECURE BOOT in the UEFI settings for the dual boot of Windows and Linux to work.

For your information, prior to installing the security updates for the month of August 2024, I was able to dual boot with Linux and Windows when my device was updated with security updates for the months of June 2024, May 2024, April 2024 and so on.

The page stated that "Please refer to the workaround mentioned in Windows release health site for this issue."

What is the URL to "the workaround mentioned in Windows release health site for this issue"?

Thanks for your answers.

Karen

Hi Karen, I'm John, a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand you're having issues with dual booting, and I'm here to help. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue with the update and has posted a mitigation, which you can find at this link: "August 2024 security update might impact Linux boot in dual-boot setup devices" https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/relea...

If you've already installed the August update, you might want to uninstall it by going to Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall updates. Then, apply the steps under "Scenario 1" in the workaround mentioned in the link above and continue from there. Or try "Scenario 2" if applicable.

I really hope this information is helpful. If you continue to have issues, please click "Reply" below and let me know.

    John J.D.

You need to turn off the Secure Boot option in your device's BIOS. You can search your device model for keys to press.
