I can't use my school email to use MS apps on Mac

I can use my school email in the browser version, edit/view, but not in the app. The app says "Your account abc@xyz can view documents, but it doesn't allow editing on a Mac. To edit, use another account to activate Microsoft 365." I attached the licenses my school email has. Screenshot 2024-02-24 at 12.22.15 AM

Hi @HARVEE DOMONDON

Because A1 subscription does not include the Office desktop apps, even if you download and install Office desktop apps, you can't activate them.

As Office desktop apps cannot be activated, you can view files, but you can't edit them. You can only use Office for web on browser.

I don’t get it because my friends and my brother have no problem signing in and using word app even though we all have the same licenses and we come from the same school. I have Office 365 education. If that matters.

This does seem a bit strange. But from the Subscriptions screenshot you shared, this account don't have "The latest desktop version of Office".

You can compare all Microsoft subscriptions in your friend's accounts to see if they have the same as yours (Office 365 A1 for students).

If the license and subscription are the same, it is recommended to verify whether they are using mobile devices such as a tablet? A1 subscription includes "Office Mobile for Office 365".

I verified it and we all have the same subscription. No more no less. What can I do with this?

Hi,

I understand why you want to use the desktop version of Office, but the benefits and products included in this subscription are by design.

It is recommended that you check with your school's IT to see if there are different subscriptions, such as Office 365 A1 Plus for students.

Hello Harvee,Office 365 A1 license does not allow you to install Office applications on Desktop or Mac. You need at least Office 365 A3 or A5 license to be able to download and install applications on either Desktop or Mac. I don't have a problem installing the app. I already have the apps on my mac. Its just that I can't use them. But the link says if I have office 365 education, I can use word, etc. But I do have a license.

It all comes down to your license.

To be able to edit and create new documents, you need to upgrade the license.
