Hi

BACKGROUND

I have a number of Windows 10 Pro PCs which are used to connect to Windows Server 2022 instances via the Microsoft RDP Client. The Windows 10 Pro PCs have very few apps on them and are effectively being used as Thin Clients with 99% of user-actions being carried out on the Server 2022 desktops. Connections to the Windows Server 2022 instances are simple single user only, that is to say, 'basic' RDP is being used rather than the multi-user RDS infrastructure; one user only connects to one Windows 2022 Server instance. Since the Windows 2022 Server instances are held in the cloud, all RDP requests from the Win10 Pro PCs are managed by a Windows 2022 Server RDP Gateway before being connected to their target instance.

ISSUE

The microphones of USB connected headsets are not being redirected from the Win10 Pro PCs to the Win Server 2022 desktops. Several of our users utilise these USB headsets on a daily basis, mainly for Microsoft Teams meetings. Since the invites for Teams Meetings arrive on the Windows Server 2022 desktops they want to be able to click on them, join a meeting and use the headsets. No input devices appear in Settings->Sound or Device Manager.

Audio does get redirected successfully but not the microphone.

ATTEMPTED RESOLUTIONS SO FAR

Win10 Pro RDP Clients -> Local Resources -> Audio Settings -> Remote Audio Playback -> set to 'Play on this Computer'

Win10 Pro RDP Clients -> Local Resources -> Audio Settings -> Remote Audio Recording -> set to 'Record from this Computer'

Win10 Pro Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Connection Client -> RemoteFX USB Device Redirection -> Allow RDP Redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer -> Enabled for Administrators and Users

Win10 Pro Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection ->

Allow audio and video playback redirection - Enabled

Win10 Pro Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection ->

Allow audio recording redirection - Enabled

Win2022 Svr Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Connection Client -> RemoteFX USB Device Redirection -> Allow RDP Redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer -> Enabled for Administrators and Users

Win2022 Svr Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection ->

Allow audio and video playback redirection - Enabled

Win2022 Svr Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection ->

Allow audio recording redirection - Enabled

Win2022 Svr Local Group Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection ->

Do not allow supported Plug and Play device redirection - Disabled

Win2022 Svr - Services - Windows Audio Service set to start Automatically.

So far none of these chnages have proven fruitful?

TEMPORARY WORKAROUND

Ms Team invites have to be copied from the Win 2022 Svr desktops to the local Win10 Pro PCs and joined from there but this is causing inconveince and confusion!

Anyone any ideas what to try next please?

    Hi

Have a look at the Server 2022 privacy settings.... there are two settings for applications using cam and mic, both default DISABLED.

Enable them and check if this works for you.

    Answer as seen in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1192955/using-windows-server-2022-usb-headset-with-microph?page=1

    Kind regards

    Hello,

It seems you are using a virtual session based remote desktop (1 image to create new thin client for users, redirect with server). So, it is not in your server (Your server is more like a VM host).

What I suggest is checking in your end users' desktop and confirm voice is not been disabled.

You said some of the users have this issue. If you mean only they are using this function (in fact all the pc have the same issue), you should check your image.

If this is a random issue, check drivers / device in your issue PC , confirm if it is identified in the terminal side.
