Cannot cancel a backup of an Azure VM

I started a backup on a small lightly loaded Azure Windows VM. It has a disk of about 20Gb. After 6 hours the backup was still running. I tried to cancel it but the cancel fails with a message to try again at a later time or raise a support request with Microsoft. I have tried now to cancel over the last 2 hours multiple times.

Microsoft of course will not support me unless I pay more money. By the way we spend 670,000€ a month with Azure so this is pretty lousy. Thats not a typo, nearly 1Million a month!

How do I kill this damn back up so I can try again

You should be able to raise a request with Microsoft based on your subscription - the problem is that the response time will not be suitable for this scenario. If you need 24/7 support with a shorter response time, this would require a different support plan.
