I can't find anywhere that shows how to fix this issue, but I'll type something into the search bar in the task bar, and the background will remain black and the text is impossible to read. User's image

This has been going on for multiple days and restarting does not help. I'm also unable to update windows in anyway for unknown reasons, so that can't help. Any solution is appreciated.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

The color of Windows Search Index is usually controlled by the Windows theme. If it is difficult to read, you can try changing the color options in Windows theme settings or personalization settings. Here are some steps:

    Change Windows theme:

Right click on the blank space on the desktop and select "Personalize". Select "Theme" in the navigation bar.

Explore available topics and choose a more readable one.

In the "Personalization" settings, select the "Colors" tab.

Here, you can change the colors of elements such as windows, start menu, and taskbar. Try choosing a clearer color scheme.

You can also try enabling "high contrast" mode, which may make the text easier to read.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou

I recently just encountered this issue. I went through all the steps to fix it and nothing worked.

how'd I fix it? created a new local account, signed out (not switch user) of my account, signed into new local account, checked to see if issue was present on local account (it wasn't), signed out local and signed into main account. issue is now fixed on main account. don't forget to delete the local account

    This worked for me

    open the registry editor

    go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

find "BingSearchEnabled" and change the value from "1" to "0"

    restart windows explorer

You can even change the value back to "1" after and it will still be fixed
