Does Azure Arc can help to provide updates of Exchange Server 2013?

We have Exchange Hybrid Environment running on Windows Server 2012 R2, now we are facing the throttling issues in the email. So does Azure Arc can solve the update issues of the Exchange Server 2013.

Karan Bhatt, thank you for posting this question on Microsoft Q&A.

Based on your question, I see there are 2 parts to it and the corresponding responses are below:

Throttling issues in Email - This is more of an Exchange specific troubleshooting scenario and troubleshooting from Exchange side can help you in this regard. Azure-Arc has nothing to do with this case. Azure Arc helps you connect your on-premises machine to Azure platform, so that you can manage/monitor them similar to Azure VMs (within supported scenario).
Update issue of the Exchange 2013 - In case you are looking for updating the on-prem Exchange 2013 servers itself (including the Windows OS and other Microsoft Softwares like Exchange etc.), you may use Azure-Arc to onboard this machine to Azure and then use "Azure Update Manager" to patch these servers.

Thank you for you reply, this was helpful for me to understand the ability of Azure Arc.

So, based on the second point which you have mentioned above, I have a small query which I mentioned below.

"Could Azure Arc support to just update the Exchange Service 2013 CU updates and KB's rather than upgrading to the latest version.?" because the upgrading can hamper the existing setup and could lead to service disruptions which I believe Microsoft would not support due to End-of-Life product.

I just noticed that both Windows 2012 R2 and Exchange 2013 are out of support. With this new information, the following applies with respect to Azure Arc:

Windows Server 2012 R2 (OS) update - They are provided through Extended Security Updates, for which the server has to be onboarded to Arc. Please note that this is only for Windows OS updates. For more details, see Prepare to deliver Extended Security Updates for Windows Server 2012

Now, for Exchange 2013 as it has already ended the support life, there will not be any further updates available. Based on the list of available CUs, the last update was released on March 14, 2023 (before it went out of support). Ref: Exchange Server 2013 Updates. Azure arc will not be helpful in this case. It can only help with the OS.
