windows 11 (any version) cannot connect to NAS without pre-stored credentials (but windows 10 can).. WHY??

Using windows 10 I can locate our server/NAS units (running SAMBA) and address them.. followed by a prompt for username and password.

GOOD.. this is correct behavior. (same for linux and previous windows versions).

BUT windows 11 cannot: - instead we get the below prompt (example below with test NAS).

(NAS and servers are visible on network

Question

WHY have this behavior when all other version of windows permit access?

what is blocked and what settings can i change to rectify this.

(We need to use many different credentials on same servers and NAS units.. so using credential manager is NOT a solution). We have several units here, with colleagues that require this functionality.

If there is no solution, I will have to pull all windows units and replace with Linux or APPLE (painful, but this operation is more critical to us than Microsoft stack).

(Reverting back to windows 10 is not an option moving forward)

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

This error could be caused by two factors, please kindly follow below steps to resolve the issue:

    1.Firewall settings.

Please check if there's any outbound rule configured for SMB/TCP.PORT==443 as a limitation.

Or you can just disable the Windows Firewall temporarily as a quick try.

    2.Credential check

Please go to control panel -> user account -> delete saved user account/credentials and give another try.

Sometimes the saved credentail will be used for SMB connection automatically by mistake.

To help other customers who may be facing the same issue, please don't forget to vote if the reply is helpful.

Hope this answer can help you well.

    Best regards,

    Jill Zhou
