Windows XP on Windows 10 with Hyper-V: Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session

We have an old physical Windows XP system (32-bit) we want to virtualize in Hyper-V.

With an older 32-bit Disk2vhd utility we have created a VHD of this machine.

In Hyper-V Manager on Windows 10 we have created a Gen-1 virtual machine with the VHD of the physical system.

When this virtual machine is started everything seems to be working fine except for mouse support.

When using a mouse we are getting a 'Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session' pop-up.

How can we fix this?

Is there maybe a beter product and topics group to send this question?

    Hi Jan,

Thanks for your post. Before moving on, please understand that Windows XP will end on April 8, 2014. There will be no more security updates or Microsoft provided technical support for the Windows XP operating system. It is very important that customers and partners migrate to a modern operating system such as Windows 11.

Also, based on my experience, there might be Integrated Service for Windows XP hyper-V that wasn’t installed or corrupt. There is no official article that can provide it due to end of lifecycle. You can refer the following article to see if it takes effect.

Reference: Download Hyper-V Integration Services for Legacy Operating Systems | Deltik

You need to manually install the Integration Components or use the the Hyper-V manangement console. Also, make sure you have SP3 installed.
