Is there somewhere a documentation about the pkgdef format?

What happens when I add the "PkgdefProjectOutputGroup" to a vsixmanifest and then compile the file? ... I see that files mentioned in the pkgdef as value "InprocServer32" are added automatically. As well as those under the key "StatelliteDll" ... but... why? How does the compiler find them? Why does it place some in the main folder of the extension and some in the 1031 subfolder? ... what if I want to add extra files? ... is there any documentation?

well... not really... but I don't know if it is the right question I asked... all this registration stuff for extensions in VS is so poorly documented, that's always a week long research to find out what I need...
