How to fix Update kb5030579 Set up blocked error while installing an update in Azure windows Virtual machine with no internet

Question

While trying to install an update "Security update for the Diagnostic Hub Standard Collector elevation of privilege vulnerability in Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 (KB5030979)" in windows server through remote login. I am facing the setup blocked error.vs tool error.png

So after going through some solutions i have tried vs-14.exe /uninstall and selected repair install cmd.png. while this working again there was one more error install error.png.

Please suggest me how to fix and install the update

The latest error mentioned that the installation needs the package DiagnosticsHub_CORECOLLECTION_x86.msi.

Could you kindly check if this .msi file exists on your side? If it doesn’t exist, I would recommend you try to download a DVD/ISO version of Visual Studio 2015. No need to install/reinstall it, but the DiagnosticsHub_CORECOLLECTION_x86.msi file will be included in the sub-folder. You can try to set the path to point to it and see if the error disappears.

I checked locally, it’s included in vs2015.3.com_enu.iso => packages\DiagnosticsHub_CORECOLLECTION\x86\

Besides, I also tested to install KB5030979(installed VS 2015 with Update 3 first, and then installed KB5030979), it installed completely on my side. I guess the error you met is related to system environment. I suggest you double check and confirm the prerequisites here: Description of the security update for Visual Studio 2015 Update 3: January 9, 2024 (KB5030979)

To apply this security update, you must have both Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 and the subsequent Cumulative Servicing Release KB 3165756 installed.
