"Cannot migrate service <apimanagementservicename> now"

My API Management Service instance is running on STv1. I see the warning to migrate to STv2. "Support for the single-tenant v1 (STv1) platform ends on 8/31/24. Migrate instances before that date to the new platform version (STv2) for continued support and access to new features. See this document for more information".

In the Azure Portal, I choose Settings -> Platform migration.

I choose radio button "New virtual IP address (recommended)"

I check the checkbox "I have read and understand the impact of the migration process."

I click "Migrate".

Immediately the error is generated:

Cannot migrate now error censored I see no further details regarding why the instance cannot be migrated. Any hints on why the migration does not proceed?

No. Currently you can't migrate an existing API Management instance (in the Consumption, Developer, Basic, Standard, or Premium tier) to a new v2 tier instance. Currently the v2 tiers are available for newly created service instances only.

The only way is you need to manually create the APIM service.

the following capabilities aren't supported in the v2 tiers:

API Management service configuration using Git

Back up and restore of API Management instance

Enabling Azure DDoS Protection

Built-in analytics (replaced with Azure Monitor-based dashboard

I'd rather wait for the fix to APIM migration, and use the migration instead of investing resources on manually creating a new instance. The APIM instance is in production and downtime due to manual migration would cause issues in the service I maintain.

@Kenneth Österberg Thanks for reaching out. All NonVNet Stv1 to Stv2 migrations are currently disabled.

This is due to a bug in APIM ResourceProvider. The fix is currently set to rollout on 06/08/2024.
