Hello François Renwart,
It appears that the error message is more likely related to a problem with the underlying TCP/IP network, rather than a specific configuration issue with SMB. Since SMB operates as an application layer protocol on top of TCP/IP, disruptions in TCP/IP can lead to SMB issues.
Have you performed the fundamental troubleshooting steps, such as verifying network connectivity(ping), checking DNS resolution, examining firewall rules, and ensuring that relevant services are running smoothly?
It might also be beneficial to inspect the event logs on the SMB client for any clues.
Additionally, we suggest gathering and comparing log data (via wireshark) from both functional and non-functional clients to pinpoint the exact root cause of the problem.
