Hello.

At present we run in production System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1.
Unfortunately this old version gives us troubl and some functionalities don't work anymore. In particular multicast (now I deply OSs in unicast), and some task sequence fail (I believe because some packages referenced in the task sequence are not found any more).

In parallel I just installed Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager version 2002 (the most recent I can get now).

For this new MECM I set a Site code and Site name different from the old.

All our clients are connected to the old SCCM using the old SCCM client agent.

I believe AD was extended when the old SCCM was installed, but I don't know how to check that.
Is the old AD extension compatible with the new MECM?

Anyways, the new server was joined to the domain prior to installing MECM.
I also enabled Active Directory Forest Discovery and did operation also discovered and created the boundaries (identical to the old SCCM). I also enable Active Directory System Discovery for a test OU, and it found the PC in that OU.

What is the best way to migrate all from the old to the new?

Thank you and best regards.
Roberto

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting in TechNet.

==>I believe AD was extended when the old SCCM was installed, but I don't know how to check that. Is the old AD extension compatible with the new MECM?
We can see the log file extadsch.log located in the root of the system drive and use it to verify whether schema extension was successful. If the old AD extension is sucessful, yes, it will be compatible with the new MECM. Actually the AD schema extension is just adding some SCCM related attributes to AD schema.

==>What is the best way to migrate all from the old to the new?
You can perform a side-by-side migration between the 2 SCCM hierarchy, refer to: STEP-BY-STEP SCCM 1511 MIGRATION TO NEW HARDWARE

Or do a site backup and restore, refer to: ConfigMgr Site Backup and Restore

    Thanks for your time.

    Best regards,
    Simon
