how to permanently kill AutoUpdate

What can I do to stop AutoUpdate from alerting me every five minutes of an update?

I have even revoked it’s background privileges and it still runs!

Dear MS, I do not need to see your flashing logo in my face all day long.

Where is the Cancel button on this dialog box?

My only choice is to comply!

    Hello

I am Abdal and I would be glad to help you with your question.

To remove the Microsoft AutoUpdate app from your Mac, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Finder on your MacOS.
    2. Click on the "Go" menu and select "Go To Folder." Alternatively, you can use the shortcut Command+Shift+G.
    3. In the "Go To Folder" window that appears, enter the following path: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/
    4. Look for a folder with a name like "MAU" or "MAU2.0" and open it.
    5. Find the "Microsoft AutoUpdate.app" file and drag it to the Trash.
    6. Empty the Trash as you normally would.
    7. Close the MAU folder and continue using your Mac as usual.

By deleting Microsoft AutoUpdate, you will remove it from your Mac and prevent it from automatically updating software.

    Thanks for the reply Abdal.

Searching these forums shows there’s a lot of people complaining about AutoUpdate constant intrusion and faults.

It’s odd that MS has not solved this issue in so many years. In my cursory review these complaints go back five years. And it’s been several years since a MS employee has replied to AutoUpdate complaints in these forums.

Yes, when I allow AutoUpdate to update all the MS apps, five minutes later AutoUpdate pops in my face to tell me no app needs updating.

    GRRR!

You have not caused this problem Abdal; no need to apologize.
In fact, you are providing valuable assistance to MS users …for free?

We users thank you. I hope MS does so as well.

MS’ own solution to this issue doesn’t function correctly. It’s disappointing that the only solution to this problem is to delete the app. You’d think the programmers would have more pride in their work.

Someone wrote a tool to repair the error instead of repairing AutoUpdater?
