Windows change my primary monitor to be secondary

Question

I have an annoying problem on my desktop PC where Windows 7 tease me.

When I connect a second monitor to my computer, Windows automatically change my primary monitor to be the secondary - right away.

In this connection it is immaterial whether monitor 2 is connected before Windows starts up, or I connect it after startup.

As soon as Windows detects the second monitor, it change to be primary rather than secondary.

I have some programs that require monitor 1 as my primary monitor, so I can not use the solution to change the primary display under settings.

I once got the solution to the problem so that Windows did not take over and decided which should be primary and secondary, but I have

unfortunately lost this memo.

Is there a kind soul who has become familiar with same problem who can give me the solution?

Hi,

After you connect an additional monitor, you can use theNew Display Detected dialog box to indicate how you want the desktop to appear on the monitor's display.

You can choose to mirror, or duplicate, your desktop on all displays.

A mirrored desktop—the default display option—is useful if you plan to use your mobile PC to give a presentation on a projector or a fixed display in a conference room, such as a wall-mounted plasma display or TV-type monitor.

To change the primary monitor to secondary and secondary to primary, you may follow the steps below and check if you can change it.

a)      Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.

b)      To designate the primary display, on the Monitor tab, click the icon that corresponds to the monitor that you want to designate as the primary display, and then select the ‘This is my main monitor’ check box.

c)      Select the screen resolution and color quality for each monitor that you're using.

Thank you for your interest.

Unfortunately, I express myself not good enough in English.

As I wrote in the post it is a condition that my MONITOR 1 is my primary and MONOTOR 2 is the secondary.

By changing the settings for the primary display I get the result that MONITOR 2 becomes the primary and unfortunately I can not use it that way.

Display drivers are of course already the latest.

Hi,

As stated in my post, then your proposal is already tested.

I need to be able to determine which Monitor to be 1 and 2.

It is not enough that I in display settings can select Monitor 2 as my primary - it must be Monitor 1.
