Resolving Deployment Failed Error while Installing Azure Monitor Agent (AMA)

Question

How can I resolve a deployment failed error when installing the Azure Monitor Agent (AMA) on my virtual machine, and ensure data is sent to the Log Analytics workspace?

The deployment failed error while installing the Azure Monitor Agent (AMA) on virtual machine can occur due to various reasons, one common issue being insufficient disk space on the VM. To resolve this, follow these steps:

1. Check Disk Space:By default the agent requires 10Gb of disk space to run. Ensure that there is enough free disk space on the virtual machine. Clear unnecessary files to free up space if required. 2. Install AMA: Retry the installation of the AMA agent once sufficient disk space is available.

To collect data from virtual machines and send it to the Log Analytics workspace, you need to create a Data Collection Rule (DCR). Here are the steps:

1. Create a Data Collection Rule (DCR):
   • Follow the instructions in the documentation to create a DCR for collecting events and performance counters: Collect data with Azure Monitor Agent.
   • If you need to collect custom logs from multiple VMs, refer to the documentation: Collect logs from a text with Azure Monitor Agent.
2. Validate Data Flow: After creating the DCR, wait for about an hour and verify if the custom logs are flowing from the source to the destination in the Log Analytics workspace.
