Can you transfer ownership of a subscription? Currently I am the network/system administrator but my Executive director is listed as owner therefore I can not create resources and we need to change that.

@Ronnie Allen IMO, you don't have to think about transferring ownership of a subscription for the purpose of getting access to create resources. Instead, you can simply ask your current owner (executive director) to add you as an owner or contributor and that should help you gain access to the subscription and create resources.

If the intent is to transfer ownership of the subscription, then Yes, it is possible to transfer ownership of a subscription in Azure. However, the process for doing so depends on whether the subscription is associated with a personal account or an organizational account.

If the subscription is associated with a personal account, the current owner can transfer ownership by following these steps:

    1. Sign in to the Azure portal using the account that currently owns the subscription.
    2. Navigate to the subscription that you want to transfer ownership of.
    3. Click on the "Access control (IAM)" tab.
    4. Click on the "Add" button and select "Add role assignment".
    5. In the "Add role assignment" pane, select the new owner's account and assign them the "Owner" role.
    6. Click "Save" to complete the transfer.

If the subscription is associated with an organizational account, the current owner will need to contact their organization's account administrator to request a transfer of ownership. The account administrator can then follow the steps outlined in the Azure documentation to transfer ownership of the subscription - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/cost-management-billing/manage/billing-subscription-transfer

It's important to note that transferring ownership of a subscription can have significant implications, so it's important to carefully consider the decision and ensure that all necessary parties are involved in the process.

You can even contact Azure Billing and Subscription Management support. They can guide you through the process based on the specifics of your organization's setup and ensure that the transfer is completed smoothly and without impacting your resources

Here is the link - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-portal/supportability/how-to-create-azure-support-request to create support case.

FYI: Azure Billing and Subscription Management support is included in the Basic Support Plan without any charge.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance or have more questions, feel free to ask!
