Hello All,

We have an Azure environment where are currently syncing users from on-prem AD via the existing Azure AD connect. Now, we added an 2nd Azure AD connect and it's in the staging mode currently.

The new Staged Azure AD connect ran full import right after the installation completes. So my question is when I turn this stage Azure AD connect server to an active server, will it run full export to Azure AD? or it's not gonna make any changes to the accounts that match or already exist?

Thank you for posting this in Microsoft Q&A.

As I understand you want to know what will happen if you move staging mode server to production.

Yes, if you make staging server as active server, it will run export.

Export is a step where all the change captured by AD connect will be synced to Azure AD. Now if you already have the changes synced to Azure AD using old Active server, and if staging server is storing the same changes of objects, then once export happens there will be no change with accounts in Azure AD.

Thanks a lot Sandeep G-MSFT for your answer. I have another question, the existing AAD Sync Server is using a custom service account to run the "Microsoft Azure AD Sync" service and now the new stage server is using virtual service account "NT Service\ADSync" . Using to different account to run the service on both servers, will it have any impact? also, is it possible to manually change the service account by updating into "Log On As" setting?

There will be no impact at all if you are running 2 different AD connect on 2 different servers.

You can only set the service account on first installation. It isn't supported to change the service account after the installation has been completed. If you need to change the service account password, this is supported and instructions can be found here.

Thanks again Sandeep G-MSFT, so to change the service account, uninstallation of re-installation of the Azure AD connect is the only option right?
