Windows 10 was supposed to be the last version of Windows, but they've just hidden the product name as a version number rather than the headline on the box. I call BS.

I remember in 1995 sitting in my parents' spare room watching the HDD on their PC spin while it did whatever the IT profession deemed it was necessary for it to be doing, rather than helping me achieve things.  A quarter of a century later, I am still going to have to waste my time watching their month old machine do a massive system update rather than something useful. Is the IT industry likely to reach any degree of professionalism before I die?

Hi Deepak. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

I would manually upgrade to the latest version 1909 by opening the Media Creation Tool from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m..., choose Download Tool Now, then open the tool and choose Upgrade This PC Now. This saves your files, apps and most settings in place, is the most stable method to change versions, brings your Updates current, resolves most problems.

If any problems report back the verbatim error and number, then continue with these steps for overcoming Version Upgrade problems: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

If the Version has problems I will work with you to try to resolve them. If the problems are unfixable for now, you have ten days to roll it back in Recovery settings. You can then hide it so it doesn't try to reinstall following this same method: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

Most problems are resolved by doing this gold standard Clean Install which should get you past all difficulties as it has millions of others who have followed the steps in this link and never come back to report another problem: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... . So read it over and see if its something you want to learn to do.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you will wait to rate my post, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Firstly do a quick reset(keep my files) then go to settings search VPN settings, turn it off then go to update and recovery, check for updates it will start downloading. let it be for an hour after downloading it starts installing...no need to do anything.. wait for 40 mins... windows will get updated to 1909

I tried multiple times to go from 1809 to 1909. On a recent effort I saw that there was an update to version 2004 update May2020 available. I tried that and lo and behold IT WORKED! Some registery errors occurred but I can't tell if that was a result of the update or just a sector going bad on a hard drive. Good luck.

    Hi Greg,

Followed suggested Win10 V1909 install recommendation and had same problem as I encountered the last three times I tried to do so from "Settings". The result upon first boot after install was the same blue screen spinning dots message "UNDOING CHANGES MADE TO YOUR COMPUTER" but this time after Win10 v1809 started I also saw the message from Windows 10 Setup titled display stating...

    We couldn't install windows 10.

We've reset your computer back to the way it was right before you started windows 10.

    0xC1900101 - 0x30018

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation

Hoping this will allow you to give me further guidance on how to get V1809 updated to V1909 on my PC.

    Many thanks in advance

    Ed
