Chat link in the side menu disappears when navigating to something else

Question

I always have to restart Teams to see the chat icon on the left and chats I have with people in view. However, as soon as I click on a different Icon such as Calendar, Calls, or Activity, the Chat icon disappears and never comes back. To get back to them I have to keep hitting the back arrow in the top left multiple times and that often does not work. The only way to get the chat icon back to see all of the chats I have with people is to re-start Teams. I also tried to pin the chat icon but that didn't work. Seems like Teams is broken.

You need to pin the Teams chat icon to the left navigation bar.

If the chat icon still disappears after pinning, try updating Teams to the latest version or clearing the Teams cache:
