one question on RI in Azure

Hello,

Just two questions on VMs reservation in Azure.

If I have bought one d8ds VM reservation at the RG level without instance flexibility group. There are two d2ds VMs in that RG as well.

What happens if my d8ds VM gets deleted ?

As instance size was not enabled while purchasing RI, will both or at least one d2ds VMs get the benefit of reservation?

May be answer is none and d8ds reservation would go waste.

I believe Microsoft allow us to change the reservation to enable instance flexibility on it. If so MS should cover at least one d2ds VM with my d8ds reservation.

Appreciate your response.

Thank you.

    @Anil Kumar Greetings!

    When you purchase a reservation for a specific VM size, such as a d8ds VM, and it gets deleted, the reservation discount will automatically apply to other running VMs that match the reservation attributes within the same scope. Since you have two d2ds VMs in the same resource group (RG), the reservation discount will not apply to them because they do not match the size of the reserved instance (d8ds). The reservation is specific to the VM size you purchased, and without instance size flexibility, it cannot be applied to different VM sizes.

    If you had enabled instance size flexibility while purchasing the reservation, the discount could have been applied to other VM sizes within the same series, such as the d2ds VMs in your case
