Using AAD groups and mail

I have been using azure professionally for years and I created my own personal azure account but I'm having issues with the following two things:
- o365 group - I setup a Microsoft 365 group and added a few users, and then tried using the email that is called out in the group list, but I received a bounce back because the domain was my sign up email (less the @ symbol)+ onmicrosoft.com which doesn't exist.
- I added my domain to my AAD and now its showing as the primary domain, however when I add another group, it still lists the email as the same onmicrosoft.com even though I've entered the domain.
My question is two parts... the most important is getting the mail working, the 2nd would getting the mail to have a more appropriate domain name.
