Hello,

My Windows Server 2022 is crashed and i rebuild the OS using Windows Server 2019. Then i have issue with one HDD where when use Windows Server 2022 the HDD formatted using Refs. Now This HDD detected as RAW on Windows Server 2019.

Trying to plug this HDD into another Windows Server 2022, the HDD is detected an I able to access the data.

So i just want to know is there different Refs version between Windows Server 2019 and 2022? If yes, are the Refs is not backwards compatible?

    Hello,

Yes, there are differences between the ReFS versions used in Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022. Windows Server 2022 uses ReFS version 3.7, while Windows Server 2019 uses an earlier version.

These versions are not fully backward compatible, which is why your HDD formatted with ReFS on Windows Server 2022 is detected as RAW on Windows Server 2019. The newer features and enhancements in ReFS 3.7 are not recognized by the older version used in Windows Server 2019.

To access your data, you will need to use a system running Windows Server 2022.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
