I have some computers that can not connect to our Azure OpenVPN gateway. The process will go through username, password and MFA response then fail with this error:

[Error] Connecting to VPN server failed with exception: Connecting to VPN server failed with exception: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host

Azure VPN Gateway

    @Robert Halpop ,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & I hope you are doing well.

    I understand that you are using Azure VPN Gateway with OpenVPN Tunnel and Entra Authentication

    Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • Are you using Azure VPN Client app? or Windows VPN App?
    • Is this a new set up? or was this working previously but recently resulted in this error
    • Can you please make sure there are no third-party firewall applications blocking this at OS Level?
      • If you have any such firewall, can you try again by disabling the firewall?
    • Can you confirm if you are able to repo this in a different machine with same credentials (without firewall)
    • Can you confirm if you are able to repo this in the same machine with different credentials
    • Can you check the "AzureVPNClient.Log" and "AzureVPNcxn.log" files of the Azure VPN client and see if you can observe any errors?
      • You can refer to this thread to learn how to fetch the log files above.

    Cheers,

    Kapil
