I know after 30 days of free tier, subscription must be upgraded to pay as you go, but why I'm I getting charged a lot each time I run my database, when I've barely populated the database with data?

So I have a $1.83 charge on my subscription on azure, and I'm wondering why. It seems to be due to my database, but I'm on the free tier so I shouldn't even incur any charges. Also I've barely populated the database so, $1.83 seems a lot. I'm using azure free tier for hobby not for large scale stuff.

My subscription was disabled after the 30 days, then I was forced to upgrade to pay as you go. Before I upgraded It said I've incurred a $1.69 charge then, It forced me to upgrade to pay as you go, then I ran my database again and the price went up to $1.83

The description of Azure SQL Database pricing is available at https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/azure-sql-database/single/

You pay for not only compute but also storage. Compute is pre-allocated - so you pay for it whether you use the database or not - unless you use the serverless tier
