iTunes Error: The iTune Library .itl file is locked. On a locked disc or you do not have write permission for this file

Original title: iTunes

I have just upgraded from XP to 7. I downloaded Windows Easy Transfer but it would not work so I copied all my files to my external disc myself.

Once Windows 7 had loaded I started to transfer them back to my computer.

I have just tried to down load iTunes 10.1.1 from the internet and everything seemed to go ok.

However iTunes will not work and I get the following message "The iTune Library .itl file is locked. On a locked disc or youdo not have write permissionfor this file".

I looked this message up on iTunes support and it says that the "My Music" folder is located in the default location in Windows XP.

Does this mean I have lost my music and what do I have to do to be able to access/download the iTunes player.

I do have the songs on various discs so I have not lost the music altogether. I am just unable to play them from my iTunes Library as I can not get access to the player.

Thankyou.

P.s. I am not very good with computers.

    Hi,

Change the permission on the /MyMusic/itunes folder (and all subfolders and files) so that it's not "Read-only".

    Here is how:

    a. By right-clicking on the iTunes folder name, and selecting Properties.

    b. You will see the Read-only check box. Make sure it's unchecked.

    @ CRYSTAL M.SEYMOUR

You're having "the same issue" as what?  You replied to a 4-year-old post that itself was tacked on to an original question from a year earlier.

It's generally better to start your own question, but if you'd rather not do that, at least provide some details about your system and your specific problem.

I have this problem because I moved my MyDocs folder on the server from one location to another. I was trying to resolve the problem that occurs becuase Vista/Win7 puts a desktop.ini file in your mydocs folder and that causes all folders to be viewed as "documents" instead of the user name from the server. Microsoft's solution is to add a layer to the folder structure. In other words instead of a home directory of \\server\share\%username% you make it \\server\share\%username%\MyDocs. In testing this on myself, after fixing all the rights so the folder could still be backed up, everything works except iTunes insists I don't have rights to that library.itl file. I've removed read only attributes, given full control permission, everything I've seen recommended. I've also uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it. Nothing helps.

I'm having the same issue I tried everything I can think of

    someone please help ...;lol
