Is there currently an option to export data assets from the Purview data catalog? Specifically, I would like to know if it’s possible to export the entire contents of the Purview data catalog into an Excel sheet, including a list of assets for each collection of registered data sources.

Additionally, could you provide the steps needed to perform this export for all data assets in Purview? My testing and the information in the article regarding the Purview export (preview) feature suggest that it's only possible to export one asset type at a time and that the exports are currently limited to business assets only.

    Hi @AinoKaisa

Greetings & Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum! Thanks for posting your query!

Currently, Microsoft Purview does not support exporting the entire data catalog contents to an Excel sheet in one go. The export feature is limited to business assets and allows exporting only one asset type at a time.

To export business assets from Purview, follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to the Purview Portal: Go to the collection containing the assets you want to export.
    2. Select Business Assets: Choose the asset type you want to export.
    3. Export: Use the export option to download a CSV file of your selected assets, including their GUIDs and the fields you chose to export

For more comprehensive exports, you might consider using the Purview REST API. This approach allows you to programmatically retrieve entity details and export them as needed.
