Azure Migrate for Physical Environment creates Classic ASR Vault & Appliance/Replication Server

Hi Folks,

I am trying to migrate on-premise Physical Servers to Azure using Azure Migrate.

Considering to above requirements, i have create Azure Migrate and added Discovery Source as Physical or others. With this desired configuration selection, backend ASR Vault gets created as a Classic one (Not Modernized) which leads to limitation on Agentless Features, push installation etc which we get in modernized one. Also classic set up soon will be deprecated.

Also latest linux support kernels and updated mobility agent is not available in classic appliance leading to limited support of OS for migration.

Any Idea folks, if we can create this one with Modernized Appliance using Azure Migrate for Physical Servers. Tried searching documents as well, but not getting enough.

Hi @SadiqhAhmed-MSFT ,

Thank you for the response, this should work as a work around without any technical glitch, however we see a feature miss in Azure Migrate for Physical Servers, which is already present in ASR which is core backend of Azure Migrate.

Hopefully we see this feature to be enabled in Azure Migrate soon for getting all the features which will enable positive customer experience with right tools in place.

I understand your concern about the limitations of the classic deployment and the upcoming deprecation. Suggest you just perform Azure Site Recovery set up and do not use Migrate project. Enable replication for physical servers and perform a failover as detailed here -

Set up disaster recovery of physical on-premises servers with Azure Site Recovery - Azure Site Recovery | Microsoft Learn

This will use the modernize version instead of the classic been used in migrate. As you are already aware that the modernize appliance is much more up to date and supports more kernels than the classic.

Regarding your feedback about product limitations/functionalities, we have relayed the same to the product group.
