Have you made any changes before the problem occurred, such as installing updates?Where are your documents stored, in the cloud or locally?How are you trying to open the Word document?
- From the list of recent documents within Word?
- From the list of recent documents on your Start Menu?
- From a shortcut on your Desktop that you created?
- By going to Documents (My Documents), finding the document and double-clicking it?
Please press and hold on Ctrl key, double-click one Word document, until Word asks if you want to start it in safe mode, then please release Ctrl key and click "Yes".- If the document can be opened properly under safe mode, I suggest you click File > Options > Add-ins > Manage COM Add-ins, click Go, clear the check boxes for any enabled COM add-ins, select OK.
Additionally, you may rename the Normal template (Normal.dotm).
Please close all the files of Office and go to File Explorer > View in Show/hide group > check the box of "Hidden Items".
- Go to C:\Users<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, then find the Normal.dotm and rename it. This file will be automatically generated when reopen Word.
