Pipeline deployment from Azure DevOps to Azure Function App fails

After setting up an Azure Function App and its accompanying Storage Account, I am trying to deploy code updates from an Azure DevOps repo. I have created a service connection, stipulated that service connection in the pipeline .yml, added that service principal to the Function App, added a Managed Identity, and given that M.I. an appropriate role for the Storage Account.
I am still getting connection errors preventing the pipeline from completing the deploy phase of its build. What have I missed?
