Hello!

Consider the following test:

One user (Michael Firsov) sends a message to another user (ExchAdmin).

The message is successfully delivered to ExchAdmin's mailbox.

I want to see this message in Delivery Reports and

I search for messages sent from Michael Firsov mailbox and does see this message:

and

I search for messages received by ExchAdmin:

and this time the search results are empty... - why?

Hello Jake Zhang,

Please kindly excuse me for such a long delay :(

...rebuilding a content index can not be done in Exchange Server 2019 since it doesn't support it any more - https://www.alitajran.com/exchange-server-content-index-state-notapplicable/

I still don't know what's the root cause of the problem but providing I've been experiencing this issue since ... may be Excange 2013 - I think it should be something else..

All Exchange Server versions I have ever worked with had problems with displaying correct search results in Delivery Reports - don't know why :(

In this case any search for ExchAdmin mailbox returnes 0 results, although there are lots of messages in the mailbox (and I can find them in the logs manually with no problems):

Rebuilding the index in Exchange Server can help resolve search issues. Here are the steps to rebuild the Exchange search index:

Open the Exchange Management Shell as an administrator.

Run the following command to check the status of the content index:

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus * | Sort Name | Select Name, Status, ContentIndexState

Stop the services by running these commands:

Stop-Service MSExchangeFastSearchStop-Service HostControllerService

Navigate to the location of the affected database in Windows Explorer.

Locate and delete the folder named with a GUID that contains the content index files. This folder is usually in the same path as the database EDB file.

Restart the services by running these commands:

Start-Service MSExchangeFastSearchStart-Service HostControllerService

After restarting the services, the content index will begin to rebuild. You can monitor the progress by running:

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus * | Select Name, ContentIndexState

The index will go through states like "Crawling" before becoming "Healthy" again

Rebuilding the index can be resource-intensive, so it's best to perform these steps during off-peak hours to minimize the impact on server performance.
